Buying guide

How long does a kitchen installation take in a Chester home?

The short answer: 8 to 12 weeks from signed order to a working kitchen for most Deelux ranges. Hand-painted and in-frame ranges run 10 to 14 weeks because the painting and finishing stages are slower. The physical installation in your home takes 2 to 3 weeks inside that window.

If you’re also extending or knocking through, add another 8–16 weeks for the building work before we can take final measurements — see our planning permission guide for how that sequences.

Full project from first showroom visit to a working kitchen:

  • Design & quote: 3–4 weeks
  • Manufacture in Winsford: 6–8 weeks
  • Installation in your home: 2–3 weeks
  • Total: 11–15 weeks (longer for painted/in-frame)

Below, the full week-by-week breakdown, then the things that most commonly add time.

The Deelux week-by-week timeline

Every Deelux kitchen follows the same timeline. These are our real figures, not marketing numbers — you’ll find the same on our lead times page.

Weeks 0 to 4 — Discovery and design (before the clock starts)

  • Week 0 — Discovery and showroom visit. Free, no deposit taken.
  • Week 1 — Free home survey and laser measurement by a Deelux designer.
  • Weeks 2–3 — First photoreal 3D visuals presented.
  • Weeks 3–4 — Design revisions and a final quote.

Week 4 — Signed order. This is when the 8–12 week clock starts.

A deposit is paid on sign-off and manufacture begins immediately. The balance is paid on delivery and installation.

Weeks 5 to 10 — Manufacture in Winsford

Your cabinets are built at our factory in Winsford, twenty miles from Chester. Every carcass is personally built by Andy Jervis, our director and chief fabricator. Doors, worktops and accessories are prepared in parallel.

Week 10 — Delivery and installation begins

Our own in-house fitting team — never sub-contracted — arrives at your Chester home. A standard installation typically runs:

  • Day 1 — Strip-out of the old kitchen (if we haven’t done it in a previous visit)
  • Days 2–5 — Cabinet fit, first fix of plumbing and electrics
  • Days 6–8 — Worktop templating (solid stone and quartz need a separate templating visit before installation)
  • Days 9–12 — Worktop fit, appliances, splashbacks, plastering touch-ups, tiling
  • Days 13–15 — Final snag walk, decoration, sign-off

Weeks 10 to 12 — Snagging and final handover

Any minor adjustments, paint touch-ups or appliance tweaks are handled before we hand over. You don’t pay the final balance until you’re happy the kitchen is finished.

What adds time — and how to avoid delays

The headline timeline assumes a straight kitchen swap in an existing, already-plastered room. Real Chester projects often have complicating factors. None of them are unusual — but knowing about them up front stops them from becoming surprises.

Things that typically add 1–4 weeks:

  • Painted or in-frame ranges — Falconbrook, Mollingdon and Brackenbury hand-painted variants run 10–14 weeks rather than 8–12 because finishing is slower and done in stages.
  • Bespoke sizes or non-standard cabinet modifications — usually add 1–2 weeks.
  • Solid stone worktops — granite, quartz and porcelain need a templating visit after cabinets are fitted, which adds 1–2 weeks between cabinet install and worktop install.
  • Bank holidays and the Christmas break — if your manufacture window crosses a long weekend or the factory shutdown, build that in.

Things that typically add 4+ weeks (plan ahead):

  • Building work — rear extension, knock-through, new windows, chimney breast removal. We can only take final measurements once plaster is dry and flooring is down. Ordering before that is the single most common cause of delay.
  • Planning permission — 8–12 weeks for a full householder application at Cheshire West. See planning permission for kitchen extensions in Cheshire West.
  • Listed building consent — add 8+ weeks and an architect involvement. See Chester conservation areas.
  • Period property surprises — solid walls, uneven floors, settlement, hidden beams. We survey for this at the free home visit and build contingency into the timeline so we don’t promise a date we can’t hit.

The one thing that will never add time with Deelux:

Sub-contractor availability. We don’t sub-contract installation — our own fitting team is employed in-house. When we book your install week, that’s our team, and they’re booked to you.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to fit a kitchen in Chester?

The physical installation in your home takes 2–3 weeks. The full process from signed order to finished kitchen takes 8–12 weeks for modern ranges and 10–14 weeks for hand-painted or in-frame ranges.

Why do painted kitchens take longer?

Hand-painted and in-frame ranges (Falconbrook, Mollingdon, Brackenbury) go through additional painting and finishing stages at our Winsford factory. The quality payoff is worth the two extra weeks.

Can I get a kitchen fitted faster?

Occasionally — it depends on factory load and which range you choose. It’s always worth asking. But we don’t rush manufacture or installation just to hit an artificial deadline — it’s the fastest way to a kitchen you’ll be unhappy with.

Do I need to move out during the installation?

No. Most Chester customers stay in the house. We set up a temporary eating area (usually in the dining room or living room) and work around you. There’s typically 2–3 days of noise and 1–2 days without a usable cooker or sink.

When should I order my kitchen if I’m extending?

After the building work is substantially complete — plaster dry, floor laid, building control sign-off imminent. We can design and quote much earlier, but final measurements only happen once the space is built.

How does payment work?

A deposit on signed order, and the balance on delivery and installation. That’s it.
